Restraunt Review: Masu Sushi, Portland

Masu Sushi Review

A few months back, my husband and I took a trip to Portland for a conference.
I had flown into Portland a few times before, but I had never really had the chance to explore the city. After this trip I have to say I am in love with Portland. Ridiculously in love with it. The food they have was simply phenomenal and since returning to Cali, nothing tastes quite as good.

Drinks

I have a couple of restaurant reviews from the places we traveled and will do each restaurant in a separate post. I simply have too many pictures and really now, those should be enjoyed. So here is Masu Sushi, the first place we stopped for dinner on our wonderful trip!

Masu Sushi - The Hello Kitty
The Hello Kitty

The Hello Kitty was crazy tasty. It was blackberry puree with lemon lime juice and vodka. Highly recommended.

Lots more after the jump!

Masu Sushi - Sake in a box!
Sake in a box!

Hubster ordered a sake. The sake came in a glass overflowing into the box which was filled to the brim.   Really cool idea and presentation. The sake was also top notch.

Food

Masu Sushi - Miso Soup
Miso

Miso tasted just like my grandma used to make it. Had a good strong dashi flavor to it.

Masu Sushi - Mt Saint Hellen's
Mt Saint Hellen’s

Mt Saint Hellen’s roll was beautifully presented and tasty. Crab, scallops, shrimp, volcano sauce, topped with smoked bonito–this was my favorite of the rolls. I also learned from the waitress that the fire display so often used at sushi restaurants is just salt soaked in 151. Why I didn’t think of that, I don’t know. But this could lead to some dangerous experiments at home.

Masu Sushi - Top to bottom, Pearl, Transformer, Japanista
Top to bottom, Pearl, Transformer, Japanista

The Pear roll – shrimp tempura, avocado, crab, topped with spicy tuna an a spicy chili sauce. This was my second favorite of the rolls.

The Transformer – softshell crab, spicy tuna, avocado, topped with tuna! I’m not a fan of softshell crab, so this wasn’t a top choice for me. My husband, however, loved it.

The Japanista – spicy tuna, spicy crab, hamachi, red jalapeños, cilantro, and sweet chili sauce. So good!

This restaurant was fantastic, with great service and great food! I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the downtown area.
