Restaurant Review: Frank’s Noodle House Portland

Frank's Noodle House - Handmade Noodles with Black Bean Sauce
Handmade Noodles with Black Bean Sauce

Being the ridiculous foodie I am, I researched a bunch of restaurants before we arrived in Portland. Frank’s Noodle House had great reviews and happened to be near where we were staying (so we thought…we originally thought we’d be near the convention center, but we ended up staying at the Governor Hotel for the first couple of days which was fantastic–but that’s for another post).

The menu is simple, but has plenty of options for all different tastes. I happened to see someone eating the Noodles with Black Bean sauce and had to order it. Not only did it look absolutely delicious, but the presentation was beautiful. When it arrived, the sauce was flavorful and sweet. The noodles themselves had a great texture, chewy in a good way, and thick.

Hubster ordered Spicy Chicken Noodles. Noodles were the same handmade noodles, but the spicy level was perfect. We both love spicy foods and it’s not often that people will actually give you the spice level you want. Normally it’s toned down for the sake of being safe. Here, the noodles where spicy SPICY. I love it when you get what you actually order. Good flavor, great vegetables included, and the chicken was juicy and tender.

We also tried the dumplings for an appetizer. Now, I’m not a fan of dumplings so these weren’t my favorite. Hubster liked them a lot. Filled with ground pork and made from, what I assume, the same dough as the noodles. Soft and fresh, they went well with the sauce they were served with.

The staff was friendly and kept our glasses filled. A couple friends came into the restaurant after we had finished and we joined them for their meal and the waitress had no problem with it. Great time, comfy place. Definitely would go back while in Portland again.
