Wow! We have Amazon Fresh in our area now!
I’ve always been pretty skeptical about online grocery services. Would the products be good? Would the quality be something I’d chose if I was at the store myself? Is it really worth it or am I just being lazy?
There was a free trial for 30 days for Amazon Fresh Prime, so of course I signed up. The price is $299 normally, and comes with all the benefits of Amazon Prime + grocery delivery early morning or that same day.
You need to have a $50 minimum purchase to place an order. Once you’ve selected your items, it will take you to a new screen, giving you the option of an attended or unattended deliver and what hours you can select for your delivery. Attended is a 1 hour window where you have to be present. Unattended is a 3 hour window and they will leave the products at your door or wherever you instruct in your comments. They leave the groceries in nice insulated bags that contain collapsible Styrofoam and packaged dry ice to keep everything cold. You save these bags and leave them out for pickup at your next delivery.
One of the items wasn’t available next day, so I picked the next available day. I chose unattended delivery and went with the “before 7am” drop off time. I was so excited to open my door at 7:15am to find everything waiting for me.
Everything was of great quality. All the herbs ordered were fresh and are still lasting five days later. The strawberries were gorgeous and tasted amazing.
They even separated the bananas with a little cardboard piece so that they wouldn’t get damaged.
I was really impressed and it did surprise me with the quality. The prices are all right. They’re about the same as Albertsons or Vons so I don’t feel any benefit there. The convenience is great, and it does help prevent you from buying things you didn’t need. Everything you ordered is saved so if you wanted to just order those same items again, you can easily do so.
If you have CSA you can join, I would still go with that for your fruits and vegetables, but Amazon has some great products and offers a great service. I may just use Amazon Fresh for my needs that can’t be fulfilled at a farmer’s market or CSA and avoid going to the grocery store completely.
Has anyone else tried Amazon Fresh? What were your thoughts?

I used to do online grocery shopping but it became a bit like pot luck as to whether what you’d actually ordered would be in stock, and it was always difficult to get the delivery slot I wanted. I do like the idea of being able to do same day delivery – what a timesaver that could be!

What service did you use Laura? That would be incredibly frustrating. I really enjoyed my experience so far with Amazon. I’ll update my review after using it a few more times.
