I completely forgot to tell you guys that I did something brave!
This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, but was really nervous about. I’ve heard some crazy stories and didn’t know if I wanted that kind of drama in my life.
But I did it.
I joined a Mom’s group!
I’m sure you’ve heard about the mommy wars, and if you haven’t, consider yourself lucky. The popularity of judging mothers has kept me away from Mom groups. Little Miss is also quite shy and didn’t really care for interaction, so I didn’t find it crucial to join one.
Many times, I opened up Meetup and searched the different groups that were available to me. I wanted to find an active group that had a variety of different activities. I was also looking for a group that had kids around Little Miss’ age.
Every time I went looking, I ended up closing the browser.
Finally, I decided to just try one. If I didn’t like it, it was just one day and I wouldn’t have to go back. It would be good for both Little Miss and myself and it was worth a shot. I picked the one that looked the most interesting and had a lot of fun events planned, got in touch with the group facilitator, and selected a day to go.
The day before, I tried to talk myself out of going. Again, I reminded myself that it was just one day. It wasn’t even a full day! It was just a couple of hours.
So I went. It wasn’t bad at all. The women were really nice and they all seemed to watch out for everyone’s kids. The group also does fundraising and community service activities, which really impressed me. Little Miss also had a lot of fun playing “next” to the other kids.
Needless to say, I am glad I went and I signed up to officially join the group that day. I’ll report back later to give updates on the progress of the Mom group as time goes by!
Thai Pink Grapefruit Salad from Well Fed
Rating overall: 2
Taste: 2
Ease: 4
Appearance: 4
This is the first recipe were I just couldn’t. It was so ugh to me, in a very bad way. I think the recipe would have been fine, had it not been soooo….fishy. Not only did it call for fish sauce (which always adds some good flavor), it also called for dried, ground shrimp. The ground shrimp I used, was the dried ground shrimp you find in the international section at the grocery store. She even mentions that you can find it in those sections in the grocery store in her book.
I love pink grapefruit. The initial pop of fresh juiciness was great, then the texture (due to the ground shrimp) and the fishy aftertaste killed it for me. I had Chris try it and he made a face after the first bite.
I will definitely not be making this again.
My cat really loved the smell of the Thai Pink Grapefruit though! You can see her in the top right corner photobombing the picture above too!
