Crafting is an all time favorite of mine.

I absolutely love it and have spent hundreds of hours (and dollars 😮 ) working on various projects. There is something so grounding when it comes to making things with your own hands. I have made so many memories crafting, and I take pride when a piece is completed.

However, there is this looming collection of projects “still to do” or projects “yet to be finished” hanging around my house . The issue is, when I go to a craft store, I buy way too much. I see something that I think I have to make that instant, and in to my cart it goes. Later, it will sit on my shelf or go into my garage, or who knows where. I might pull it out when I randomly remember it again.

Enter the Crafter’s Box

Last year, I came across this new subscription service that was about to launch while I was browsing Instagram– The Crafter’s Box. This was a crafting subscription. The box would come with all the needed equipment, and video instruction by a specialized creator would be available online. The very first box would feature Maryanne Moodie and Rya weaving. Um yes, I really wanted to sign up.

While it sounded pretty cool, I wasn’t sure if it was really for me. Every month, a random craft sent to me with no guaranty I would even like the it. Even if I joined, would I have time to do the projects? A few months back, I had already purchased a loom and had created a wall hanging—did I really need to get another one?

I signed up. I figured I’d at least get the first month’s craft (that I really wanted) and if I didn’t like it, I’d cancel.

Let me tell you how glad I am that I did. It’s almost been a year now—I can’t believe how fast time flies—and the Crafter’s Box has helped me out in so many different ways.

• I’m motivated to craft.

Yes, I crafted all the time before this subscription service, but not on a consistent basis. I may have crafted a few projects in one month, skipped 2-4 months, and then started up again. This keeps me going and it also satiates my creative “itch.”

• I make time for myself.

I forced myself to set aside time for me to relax and get lost in my creative work. Taking time away from blogging, housework, and whatever else might be going on at the time, I find myself a quiet spot, and craft away. This has really improved my mood and my anxiety.

• I’m completing projects.

All right! No more piles of materials storing up! The truth is, even if I don’t get to a Crafter’s Box project right away, it stays on a shelf behind my desk and I get to it within a couple of weeks. This is a huge improvement over what used to happen.

• I’m saving money.

Okay, you might think, $65 for a monthly subscription? That seems like a lot. Yeah, I thought the same thing. Then I realized, I couldn’t leave a craft store without spending at least $40. “At least” being the key phrase here. When I go in to a crafting store, it won’t be the only time I go during that month. I spent a ton on projects (that might not even get finished) and I would have a lot of left over supplies. This is also a huge point! No waste. Plus, it comes with video instruction and a live Q & A session! How can you go wrong with that?

• I’m using my own creations to decorate my house.

This was actually a goal of mine. So this killed two birds with one stone. But I absolutely love how when I finish a piece, I can’t wait to display it. I am so impressed with their projects so far, and even the ones I wasn’t so interested in, I came out loving them.

So as you can see, I really love the Crafter’s Box. In fact, I would go on to say it has been the best investment of the year. I plan on continuing with the Crafter’s Box for a long time and I can’t wait to see what gorgeous crafts they put together in the future.
