Okay so this jello recipe wasn’t from one of my cookbooks.
This is from the blog of a tea subscription I receive. It looked and sounded crazy good and I just HAD to try it!
Looks can be deceiving though, and this recipe definitely was deceiving.
First, I want to mention how ridiculously hard it is to photograph jello. It’s near impossible to make it look attractive. Also, I’m pretty sure I’m not supposed to be calling it jello… jelly or gelatin is most likely what it’s supposed to be called. Jelly to me though is what you spread on toast, not a tasty dessert. So we’re going to go with what I called it/ate as a child and stick with jello.
The good about this dish: It was super easy. REALLY EASY. I also loved how this was a healthy version of that sugar packed snack I ate as a kid. The sweetener was honey, which really made me happy. If I were to make this again, I would add a bit more to up the sweetness. I’d also love to try this again with a fruit juice!
The bad: I couldn’t get over a tea-flavored jello. It sounds great, until you try it. As soon as you take that first bite, you think to yourself, “no.” It was really weird. Also, the coloring wasn’t as bright as the jello shown on the website. Mine was a light brownish color (just as you would imagine tea to look) and they had a lovely red colored version. I suppose you could add red food coloring, but that wasn’t something I wanted to do.
So there you have it! Strawberry mint tea jello is another recipe under my belt and one I will not be making again.
Have you ever made a tea into a jello? What other unusual things do you think would make a good one?
