This move has been pretty stressful on me. I’ve been worried if we were making the right choice in a place to live, getting everything organized, worried about the baby, and the pets, and the husband’s job, and the list goes on. I just found out the other day we moved nearby a closed landfill and now I’m spazzing out of all the chemicals that could harm us in one way or another. <–See my paranoia?
During this move, I have not been taking care of myself. I’ve been eating poorly, haven’t even been going on walks, though I did get some fresh air and sun so that is a plus. But eating right is a huge deal for me. Eating right makes me feel like I have some control over my health and it gives me a sense of empowerment.
Now that I have my kitchen back, I’ll be returning to Whole30 to reset at the start of October (I want to test and review some of Juli Bauer’s recipes in her new book before starting ;p ). Why Whole30? It’s something that is very similar on how I would normally eat, I know it works, and I feel great. Really, really great.
I can tell you, that for myself when I eat the Whole30 way, I worry less, have more confidence, and I feel like I actually glow. From Whole30, I return to my normal real food eating, and maintain that great feeling. It’s really when I eat poorly (like I have been) that I feel bad about myself, start worrying about EVERYTHING, and can’t control my anxiety.
I’ve done one round of Whole30 and I really wish I took before and after pictures. I’ll make sure to do it this time around. I seriously felt amazing and people were constantly commenting on how I was beaming too.
The idea is to remove certain types of food for 30 days, which will break your body and mind free of any addictions to food, as well as clear out your system. If you want, after the 30 days, you can slowly introduce the foods back into your diet to see if your body has a reaction to it.
I know that there is something that my body hates about gluten. I bloat (yes, your whole body can bloat somehow, just ask my arms), I am groggy when I wake up, and irritable.
Sugars are usually no big deal unless I have a week of insane sugar eating, then I have to stop my body from craving sweets. Normally though, I avoid processed sugars and stick to natural ones like honey.
Dairy…I’m still in debate about this one, but I’m pretty sure it makes me break out. Horribly. This breaks my heart the most because I love cheese. BUT PERHAPS it’s just certain kinds of dairy? Like cow. Maybe cow is bad and goat is okay? I certainly hope so. Or at least sheep. Something needs to be okay(my wishful thinking). I’ll have to try it out after my next round.
But really, Whole30 is great. Before you freak out and think that you won’t be able to eat anything good—just stop, and talk a breath. There’s a ton of delicious things you can have on Whole30. I really didn’t have a problem with the restrictions after the first week and there’s sooo many great recipes out there! I’ll be posting a few in October of my own creation. Cookbook wise—Well Fed is FANTASTIC. I recommend both book 1 and 2 even if you’re not looking to do Whole30.
If you’re wondering about my lack of pictures, I had a ton of them–then lost my SD card in the move. I’ll have to check our server in hopes that I had transferred them over…
Have you done Whole30? What obstacles did you face? Are you thinking about doing a Whole30?
